Curriculum

The curriculum is based upon the 4 core goals of the mission statement of the school. Each term we focus upon one of the goals and plan the lessons and activities around achieving it. The mission statement and goals for each term are outlined below, and you can download the full curriculum:

MISSION STATEMENT:

TERM 1: TO GROW THE LOVE OF GOD IN THE HEARTS OF THE CHILDREN

TERM 2: TO PROVIDE AN ENVIRONMENT IN WHICH THE CHILDREN CAN DEVELOP SPIRITUAL VIRTUES

TERM 3: TO CULTIVATE THE DESIRE TO SERVE GOD THROUGH SERVING HUMANITY AND

TERM 4: TO UNDERSTAND THE ESSENTIAL ONENESS OF MANKIND

Each lesson is drawn up by the individual teachers from the vast amount of material available for children's spiritual education. We incorporate stories and lessons from a vast array of spiritual and moral traditions in an effort to show the children that although many of the names and traditions associated with a particular belief may be very different – fundamentally the spiritual principles upholding those beliefs can be very similar.

The use of the arts in teaching the children is also very important and we try to encourage them to sing and perform drama exercises whenever possible. The use of learning games is also a very dynamic and effective way to teach and we incorporate them regularly into the lessons.

We also draw upon resources within the Bahá'í community and the parents of the children to enrich their learning. At least once a term we have a special lesson where the focus of the class is aimed toward allowing the children to express themselves through a certain art. We have made our own musical instruments and created a virtues tree so far and hope to be able to do many more of these types of activities in the future.
