Patricia and Julia walk together on a path of service

In their younger years, Patricia and Julia were part of a youth group for some time. As they grew older, they became excited at the prospect of conducting their own group and they studied a sequence of courses based on the Bahá’í Writings that gave them the insights and skills to start to walk a path of service. In these circles of study, the environment is participative and joyful, and at the same time, serious and inspiring.

The study circles also included practical components that gave the youth the opportunity to translate the knowledge gained into action in their community. With the help of the facilitator of their study circle, they started a youth group of their own in their neighbourhood. As Patricia and Julia helped this group to recognize their role in serving their communities, some of the members of the youth group also became interested in conducting classes for the spiritual education of the children around them. Patricia and Julia felt that they would love to help these youth to start walking a path of service, just as they had been accompanied. The bond of friendship between the two of them strengthened and gave them the courage to continue serving.

They studied a book in the sequence that gave them insights into the attitudes and abilities needed to nurture and encourage others. Selflessly advancing their community also influenced the way they viewed the purpose of their lives. They saw challenges in their lives not as insurmountable obstacles, but as opportunities to progress spiritually. They recognized that true spiritual growth comes through helping others who arise to serve.
